Steel sports models hold value best

Market data from WatchCharts in early 2026 put Rolex as a brand at roughly 6.7% above retail on the global secondary market, and steel sports models such as Submariner, GMT-Master II and Daytona at roughly 85-120% of retail. Morgan Stanley's watch market reporting names only three brands with positive value retention: Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet.

One caveat worth knowing if you bought in Thailand: Thai retail prices include import duty, so your break-even point is higher than someone who bought the same reference abroad. Global percentages are a guide to which models resell easily, not a formula to apply to what you paid here.

No box, no papers, not running

All still sellable. Missing box and papers typically costs in the region of 8-15% on popular references rather than the dramatic figures people repeat. A watch that has stopped is usually a service issue, not a dead watch, and we account for that in the offer rather than refusing it.

What we check when you come in

• Whether the dial, hands and bezel are original to the reference
• Serial and reference numbers, and whether they match the papers if you have them
• Movement operation and timekeeping
• Bracelet stretch and clasp condition
• Whether the case has been over-polished

We do this in front of you and explain what we find, including anything that reduces the price. If it turns out the watch is not genuine we will tell you and show you why, and we will not charge you for finding out.
